Today is a "B" day

*Congratulations to Mrs. Le!  She is our Scott Staff Member of the Week.

*Homework Club will meet today from 3:00-4:00pm in the 8A pod area.

*8th graders attending Southwest who have questions about the list of classes you were given need to return your form, signed by your parents, to Mrs. Raven this week.

*8th grade students interested in applying for Student Council at Southwest can stop and pick up an application in the office.  Applications are due to the Southwest Office by Wednesday, May 7.

*Sign up today to participate in the Heart Walk with your classmates and teachers.  See Mrs. Foster in Room 314.  Did you know that: individuals who don't exercise and/or are obese also put themselves at greater risk of heart disease.  Excess weight strains the heart, influences blood pressure, blood cholesterol and tri-glyceride levels, and increases the risk of diabetes.

*Please remember to cross the street at designated crosswalks.  Crossing streets outside the crosswalks is a law violation and is extremely dangerous.  Be safe, look both ways, and use the crosswalks.

*Officer Hurley wishes to remind students to protect their property and use bike locks every day and don≠t forget to wear a helmet!

*Hey 8th Graders!  The Youth Leadership Lincoln Application Deadline is approaching!

May 9, 2008 is the deadline for your Youth Leadership application.  Remember to include the permission form from the principal, a school reference and a community reference.  Mail the completed application to:
Youth Leadership Lincoln
1230 O Street
Lincoln, NE 68508
Attn. Pete Ferguson

Applications are available from your counselor or at area youth serving organizations/agencies.  Students can also download an application form at www.leadershiplincoln.org or call Pete Ferguson, Youth Leadership Lincoln at #402-441-4661 to have one mailed.

*Do you have bikes that your children have outgrown cluttering up your garage?  Why not relieve your burdens by DONATING them to a good cause?  The MAD DADS of LINCOLN is sponsoring its "Bicycle Repair and Give Away Program" from now until June, 2008.  Bring in your "gently used" to "well loved" bicycles before June 15, and they will be repaired as needed and given to youth here in Lincoln who have no bicycles.  The program is free of charge to the 5th and 6th graders who will receive the greatly appreciated bikes!  Remember, all donations to MAD DADS of Lincoln, Inc. are tax deductible.

For more information, or to make a donation, please contact Rev. Donald Coleman, President of MAD DADS of Lincoln, at #742-0224.  Donations may be dropped off at the new MAD DADS facility at 615 S. 6th Street (downtown near 6th and J).

*SECC Milford Campus will be having an Open House on Sunday, May 4 from 11:00am-4:00pm.  You will have he opportunity to meet instructors, students, industry partners and employers and tour the campus.  The programs include academic transfer, business and mass media communication occupations, construction occupations, electronic/computer occupations, transportation occupations, and manufacturing and fabrication occupations.  For more information, you may call #402-761-2131, #8-800-933-7223, look on the web at www.southeast.edu, or see Mrs. Raven.  It is never too early to begin thinking about your future!
